Lagos-based lawyer and clients arraigned for damages


A 34 year-old, Lagos-based lawyer, Bayo Philip Adebowale was arraigned before an Ebute-metta Chief Magistrate's Court, on four count charges bordering on conspiracy, willfully and unlawful damage of two buildings, unlawful caused grievous harm and conduct likely to breach public peace.

Charged along with the lawyer was a 48 years old Austine Izagbe.
Police in the charge alleged that the two accused persons and others now at large had on February 26, 2016, at about 10am, at 2, Faith Mission Estate, Satellite Town, Lagos, willfully and lawfully damage two buildings belonging to one Dr. Mariam Iyabode Adeleye.

The lawyer and his co-defendant were also alleged to have caused grievous harm on the owner of the damaged buildings, Mrs. Adeleye. While they were also charged for conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace by dispatching armed men to 1, Faith Mission Estate, Satellite Town, while demolished a building.

The offences according to the prosecutor, Sergeant Jimah Iseghede, are contrary to and punishable under sections 409, 243, 348 and 166(d) of the Criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

They two defendants however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Upon their plea, I Mrs. Imelda Adebambo, which was their lawyer, urged the court to grant them bail in the most liberal term.

Consequently, the presiding magistrate, Miss Ope-Agbe, admit them to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties each.

The sureties according to the magistrate must present to court evidence of three years tax payable to Lagos State government, means of livelihood and gave their addresses verified by the court's prosecutor.

Ope-Agbe however ordered that the two defendants be remanded in prisons custody pending the perfection of their bail, while adjourned the matter till April 18, for mention.
