Court remands bank manager for fraud allegation

The Special Fraud Unit of Nigeria Police, has arraigned a former manager with Diamond Bank Plc, Chinedu Oguike, before a Lagos Federal High Court on charges bordering on conspiracy and fraud of twenty four million naira.
SFU in charge nunber FHC/L/334c/16, filed before the court by its prosecutor, CSP Effiong Asuquo, alleged that the defendant while acting as Oyingbo branch former  Manager of the Bank, something in 2014, conspired others now at large, and obtained the sum of N24 million, from one Ufomba Nnabugwu.
He was alleged to have obtained the money from the victim under false pretence of delivering a property located at Plot E-136, Adelaja Opesanwo Street, Ijegun-Egba, Satellite town, which is covered by a federal government's Certificate Of Occupancy (C Of O) registered as no. 48, Page 48,  volume 52, of the Federal Lands Registry Office, Ikoyi, dated August 25, 1999.
He was also alleged to used another person's name, Edwin Obele Ezeakachukwu, to obtained a loan facility from the bank for himself, and used the above mentioned property belonging to the name used, as collateral, at the detriment of the owner of the house.
The offences are said to be contrary to and punishable under sections 8(a), 1(1)(a)(3) of Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud related Offences Act, 2006, and 1(2)(C) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act. Cap. M17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following his plea of not guilty, the prosecutor, CSP Asuquo, urged the court to remand the defendant in Prison's custody, and fix a date for trial.
However, the defendant's lawyer, John Itodo, while making an oral bail application for his client, pleaded with the court to admit him to bail in the most liberal terms.
He informed the court that he was not aware that his client will be arraigned today, saying that the prosecution just withdrew a charge against him at a Magistate court in Lagos.
But the presiding judge, Justice AbdulAziz Anka, while ordering that the accused be remanded in prison custody, pending the trial date, turn down the oral application, and urged the lawyer to file necessary documents before the court.
The matter has been adjourned till October 6, for trial.
