Wanted money lender arrested and arraigned for stealing

A female money lender, Abolade Omowunmi, who allegedly absconded after collecting deposits of N8 million from 13 of her customers has been arraigned at Tinubu Magistrate Court by police.
She was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining under false pretence and stealing.
Omowunmi was arrested by officers of the Area 'J' Police Command, Elemoro, Ajah, Lagos following complaints by the depositors and after investigation by Sergeant Isaac Mathias
The police said Omowunmi, whose address was not given, and four of her accomplices obtained the money by promising to give the depositors low interest soft loans which they could invest in their businesses.
It was alleged that the incident occurred last July at Sangotedo Town in Eti-Osa Local Government Area (LGA), Lagos.
Prosecuting Police Inspector N. Thomas told the court that the defendant 'with intent to defraud, induced and unlawfully obtained N8m from one Friday Eworo, Olayiwola Tobiloba, Okafor Augustine and 10 others.
"It was obtained under the pretence that the defendant would give them loans which would be paid back at a certain interest rate at a given period, knowing same to be false," he added.
The offences, Thomas said, contravened Sections 409, 312, and 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Upon the accused plea of not guilty, the presiding Magistrates, Mrs. K. Ayeye granted her N200,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum and adjourned till September 7, for mention.
