Police from Special Fraud Unit of Nigerian Police Force, has arraigned two bankers, Akani Kehinde, and Mustapha Abdulwaheed, before an Igbosere Magistrates' Court, Lagos, over allegedly stealing of about seventeen million naira belonging to their employers.
Kehinde, 34, resides at 409, Borno way, Sabo Yaba, Lagos, and Abdulwaheed, 29, who resides at 34, Awe Street, Orile Iganmu, Lagos, were docked before Magistrate A. T Omoyele on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Corporal Cyriacus Osuji, imformed the court that the two bankers committed the alleged offences between July- September 2015, at 2:00 p.m, at the Orile-Iganmu branch of First Bank Plc.
Osuji further informed the court that the two bankers used their office as the ATM custodian officers and stole the sum of N2.9 million, property of First Bank of Nigeria Ltd. And also diverted cheques worth N12.2 million which were meant for Leadway Insurance and converted it to their personal use.
Coporal Payton further told the court that the duo stole a cash sum of N1.4 million, property the bank.
The prosecutor said; "The total sum of money stolen by the two accused persons was N16.5 million all belonging to their employer."
The offences acccording to the prosecutor are contrary to and punishable under Sections 285 (7) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the two bankers pleaded not guilty to the the offences.
Consequently Magistrate, Omoyele admitted them bail in the sum of one million naira each with two responsible sureties each in like sum.
She said that the sureties must be gainfully employed, who must show evidence of two years tax payment to Lagos State government, and have their addresses must be verified by the prosecutors.
The magistrate also ordered that civil servants and touts were not allowed to stand as sureties fot the accused persons, while adjourned the matter till February, 2 for mention.
