Armed Robbery: Court Sentences Defendant To Death By Hanging

A Lagos High Court, sitting in Igbosere has sentenced a man to death by hanging for Conspiracy and Armed Robbery. The convict, RasakOgedengbe, aged 25, on the faithful day, had along with another person at large attacked the family of one Mr Chukwujekwu who just returned from church at Ejigbo with guns and catered away some of their valuables, which included money, wrist watches, phones, etc.

The victim had gone to report at Ejigbo police station and when stepping out of the police station, he saw the Defendant in the police van already arrested by the police.
The police searched the polythene bag with him and found some of the valuables catered away from the victim.
The Defendant did not produce any witness and also pleaded not guilty to the offence but the Prosecution had called two witnesses to testify and all their evidence were taken by the court.
While delivering her judgment, the presiding judge, Hon.Justice Olabisi Akinlade,held that the defendant was accused of criminal conspiracy and Armed Robbery under Section 403  and 402 of the criminal code law of Lagos State 2003.
She said that the Prosecution has been able to prove the elements of Armed Robbery and Conspiracy and therefore found the defendant guilty of both offences.
The Defendant was sentenced to death by hanging.
