Police arraigned businessman for fraud

A 47-year-old businessman, Ernest Egbeh, who allegedly stole goods from his business associate worth N6.8 million, was docked before an Igbosere Magistrates' Court Lagos.
Egbeh, who resides at 3, Mike Avenue, Peace Estate at Iba area of Lagos, is standing trial on a six-count charge bordering on fraud, and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Nicholas Akpene, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offences between January 2012 and February 2013, at No. 15, Alanna Shownmi St., Shogunle Oshodi, Lagos.
He said that the accused allegedly defrauded one Mrs Joana Amassininou, also stole her goods to the tune of N6.8 million.
"Egbeh, with intent to defraud, converted to his own use, the sum of N4.7 million; under guise of purchasing car and truck spare parts from Germany.
"The accused also stole the sum of eight hundred thousand naira being the proceeds of a truck, he sold for Mrs Amassininou.
" The accused same time and place stole another sum of three hundred thousand naira being proceeds from sell of one hundred and eighty seven pieces of pampers," Akpene said.
The prosecutor also alleged that the accused  stole the sum of seven hundred and fifty thousand naira which was meant for repairing a truck.
He said that Egbeh stole ten foreign wooden doors worth seventy thousand naira all properties of Amassininou.
Akpene, said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 285 (9) and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Adepeju granted bail to the accused in the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till June 16 for mention.
