Police docked Lekan Shonde before Ebute Metta Magistrate Court

A dockworker, Lekan Shonde who allegedly killed his wife, Ronke during a fight at their home in Egbeda area of Lagos two weeks ago has been arraigned before an Ebute Metta Magistrates' Court.
He was charged with murder, an offence punishable under section 221 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court subsequently granted an application filed by the police prosecutor, Mr. Chinalu Uwadione to remand Lekan Shonde in  prison custody pending the directive of the state Directorate of Public Prosecution on the matter.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. I.O. Adelaja adjourned the matter till twenty-fourth next month.
Meanwhile its on record that magistrates courts lack the jurisdiction to hear capital offences and the matter is expected to be transferred to the high court if the murder charge is to be sustained.
In the same vein, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, had on Wednesday released an autopsy report which stated that Ronke died from respiratory seizure.
She was also said to have had water in her brain and some bruises on the head.
Their marriage which was blessed with two children, aged six and four, was said to have been marred with domestic violence.
