Hemp sellers sentenced to 5 years imprisonment

A Lagos Federal High Court, has sentenced a 37 years-old man, Gafar Yaya, to five years imprisonment for trading in Indian hemps.
The convict, was arraigned before Justice James Tsoho's led-court by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on a one-count charge bordering on the offence.
Upon his arraignment, he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Following his plea and evidence adduced by prosecution, Justice Tsoho sentenced the accused to five years imprisonment to begin from the date of his arrest.
Tsoho held that he was satisfied with the evidence tendered against the accused to establish his guilt.
Sentencing the convict, Yvette judge said; "From all evidences adduced by prosecution, I am satisfied of the guilt of the accused; I pronounce him guilty of the offence and convict him summarily.
"The convict is hereby sentenced to five years imprisonment beginning from August 10 when he was arrested. The drug substances are to be destroyed by the NDLEA after 90 days if there is no appeal against this judgment."
The judge said aggrieved parties are entitled to appeal within 90 days of this judgment.
Duting the convict's arraignment, NDLEA prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan had told the court that the convict committed the offence on August 10, and said that he was arrested at Abule-Oki bus stop Iyana-Ipaja while selling Cannabis Sativa alias Indian Hemp to touts in the vicinity.
Aernan informed the court that the convict was subsequently arrested by NDLEA officers and the drug substances seized.
After presenting his case, the prosecutor had tendered before the court, a transparent envelop containing remnant of the drug substance, which were admitted as exhibit by the court.
The prosecutor had then urged the court to convict the accused based on his plea and evidences adduced.
