LEKKI FREE TRADE ZONE TRIBUNAL COMMENCE INVESTIGATION

Lagos State government has inaugurate a panel of inquiry to investigate the cause of the incident which claimed the live of the managing director of Lekki Free Trade Zone, Alhaji Tajudeen Disu.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had on the 22nd of last month constituted a five member panel to unravel the cause of the incident in order to forestall future recurrence.
The five member panel has a retired judge, Justice Adesuyi Olateru-Olagbeji as the Chairman while other members are former Surveyor General of the Federation, Mr. Fuad Kazeem, a former member House of Representatives, Mrs. Arinola Onabamiro, Mr. Yemi Lawal, and Mr. Tunde Seriki.
Chief State Counsel in the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Mr. Adebayo Haroun is to serve as the Secretary of the Tribunal. ‎
Inaugurating the panel, on behalf of  the governor in Ikeja, the commissioner for justice and Attorney General, Mr. Kazeem Adeniji urged the five man panel to do a thorough job on the issue.
Mr. Kazeem Adeniji explained that setting up of the panel was a clear indication that the government was determined to ensure that justice was done to the issue.
Mr. Adeniji pointed out that Lekki Free Trade Zone was a project conceived and established to transform the nation's economy as it was the largest in West Africa with the potential such as Lekki deep sea port.
"The tribunal must be fearless and ensure everybody  has a chance to ventilate their observations and suggestions.
"Lagos is the commercial hub of Nigeria and indeed Africa. It cannot afford these disturbances at all.
" Government is therefore looking for lasting solutions and incisive recommendations to ensure this never ever happens again," he said.
In his remark, the chairman of the panel, Justice Olateru-Olagbeji, gave an assurance that the panel would do its finding and makes recommendations to the state government.
Justice Olateru-Olagbeji, therefore urged individuals, groups, stakeholders, host communities' and members of the public to make their submissions to the panel to enable it carryout the assignment judiciously.
Justice Adesuyi Olateru-Olagbegi maintained that the tribunal would not entertain any form of bias in its proceedings, adding that it was only interested in unraveling the truth.
At the inauguration, the fourteen host communities that make up the trade zone area were represented by their counsel.
Meanwhile, Two persons, Alhaji Tajudeen Jegede, 68, Chief Kayode Raufu, 60; who were among the 17 suspects remanded by an Ebute-metta Chief Magistrate's Court, Lagos, over the alleged killing of the managing director of the Trade Zone, Mr. Tajudeen Disu, have been discharged by the court.
The duo were discharged by the court after the prosecution led by Mr. Cyril Ejiofor, from Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Panti-Yaba, informed the court that they were exonerated by the investigation conducted by the police.
Also, the court equally admitted bail to 15 suspects arrested in connection with the alleged killing.
Those admitted to bail were; Saidi Akanni, 41; Raufu Agunreje 31, Sunday Bulus 30; Taiwo Oyelade, 21; Abiola Ogunsanwo, 20;
Others includes; Stephen Okuriaye 20; Taiwo Gafar 38; Banji Agunrege 37; Ahmed Gafar 25; Moses Okoro 30, Talabi Onadri 43; Ipaye Oriyomi 25; Yusuf Quadri 23; Lord Lugard, 32; and Anthony Agbogie, 30.
The 15 accused persons were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Afolashade Botoku led-court on a six count charge bordering on rioting and unlawful assembly.
The Police alleged that the 15 accused persons had on October 12, at about 9am, conspired among themselves to commit the alleged act.
The offences according to the prosecution are punishable under sections 409,45, 410 and 44 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.
The accused persons, who are majorly fishermen, technician and Okada rider, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Consequently, the presiding Chief Magistrate Botoku admitted to bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety each.
The court has adjourned the accused persons' trial till December 21.
However, the court ordered that  Jaiye Dele, 40; Tunde Ismaila, 27; Shakirat Agbaje, 40 and Oshinowo Olalekan, 30, to be remanded in prisons custody.
The court's order was sequel to a remand application brought before the court by the Police against the four accused persons.
In the remand application, the prosecution led by Cyril Ejiofor, informed the court that the application was brought before the court pursuant to Section 246(1)(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice, ACJ, of Lagos state, 2011.
Ejiofor therefore urged the court to remand the accused persons in prisons custody pending an advice for the DPP's office.
However, lawyer to the four accused persons, Mr. A. Usman, while urging the court to discountenanced the remand application, said prosecution failed to state a probable cause why his clients should be remanded.
He therefore urged the court to grant bail to the four accused persons.
However the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Afolashade Botoku, after listened to the submission of both parties, upheld the remand application and ordered that the four accused persons be remanded in prisons custody pending an advice from DPP on the matter.
The Chief Magistrate also ordered the police to duplicate the case file and forward same to DPP's office for legal legal advice.
The matter has also been adjourned till December 21.
