Alleged housing fraud: Police arraigned agents for defrauding prospective tenant

A 71-year-old clearing agent, Bamidele Doherty, who allegedly obtained about three million naira from a prospective tenant under guise of being a landlord, was docked before an Igbosere Magistrates' Court in Lagos.
Doherty, was charged alongside three Estate agents, Jubrin Yusuf, Mathew Adeniyi, and Kehinde Adeleye.
The accused are standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud, and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the accused  and others at large committed the alleged offences on June 5, at 2:00 pm, at Park view Estate Ikoyi, Lagos.
He said that the accused obtained the sum of about three million naira from one Miss Adaobi Enemuoh, under guise of renting a two bedroom apartment situated at 19, Aghodogba St., Parkview Estate Ikoyi, Lagos to her.
Sgt. Osuji said that the accused falsely introduced Doherty to Enemuoh as the landlord of the said apartment.
The prosecutor said the accused obtained the said money through an Access bank account.
He said that the accused stole the said money.
Sgt. Osuji said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 312, 378 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
They all pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate, Mrs A. Y. Omeyele, however, granted them bail in the sum of N250, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
She said that the sureties must be tax complaint and must be gainfully employed.
Magistrate Omeyele adjourned the case till Aug. 2 for mention
