Court remand rapist in Kirikiri for defiling minor

An Ikeja Magistrate Court has ordered a computer instructor, Cosmos Ugbaja to be reminded in kirikiri prison pending when he would perfect his bail.
Magistrate Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi ordered Ugbaja remanded in Kirikiri Prison after he pleaded not guilty to a one count charge of rape preferred against him by the Police.
The Police had charged Ugbaja to court for allegedly raping a 14 year old gir‎l (names with held), who is a Junior Secondary Student at year three in a public school in Ishawo, Ikorodu.
According to Police Prosecutor, Inspector Samuel Imohsonwa, the suspect serially raped his victim between January and May this year.
The one count charge against the sus‎pect stated in part: "that you Cosmos Ugbaja, 43, between. January and May, 2016 at 13 Banjo Oyesanya Street, Olainukan, Ishawo, Ikorodu did unlawfully had sexual intercourse with one (names with held) aged 14 years and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011".
The suspect pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of having unlawful sexual intercourse with his victim.
Magistrate Osunsanmi granted him bail in the sum of N500,000.00 and two sureties in the like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must have means of income, evidence‎ of tax payment in last three years and property in Lagos, all which she said must be verified by appropriate officer.
She thereafter adjourned the matter for hearing till August 1.
Police sources however said Ugbaja, who owns  a computer centre in Ishawo, Ikorodu was engaged by the school being attended by his Victim to help trained the students in computer studies.
It was said that the victim had sometimes in January gone to the centre to make photocopies.
The suspect taking advantage of the established relationship  allegedly lure‎ his victim and raped her and gave her fifty naira after the incident.
Police sources said the last time the Victim was raped was on June 1 after which she developed stomach pains and had to be taken to hospital where it was discovered that she has raped several times.
The victim's mother reported the matter at the Police station in Ishawo.
The  suspect, it was said, confessed to the crime and even offered to settle the medical bill of his victim put at about one hundred thousand naira installmentally within  one hundred days in his confessional statement now  in possession of the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT).
DSVRT coordinator, Mrs. Lola Vivour-Adeniyi who also confirmed the report advised young girls to always shout and a report whenever they are being raped instead of keeping quiet.
She also advised victims to always seek medical treatment  at Mirabel Centre at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH‎) immediately after rape saying that the treatment is free of charge.
