Clearing agent docked for defrauding and stealing

A 35-year-old clearing agent, Isiaka Muritala, who allegedly obtained the sum of N4.1million from his customer under the pretext of clearing two cars for him, has been docked at an Igbosere Magistrates' Court, Lagos.

Muritala, who resides at Ketu area of Lagos State, is standing trial on two-count charge bordering on fraud and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Kenneth Asibor told the court that the accused committed the alleged offences on July 16, during working hours in Lagos.
He said that the accused obtained the sum of N1.3 million from one Martins Eruga, under the guise of clearing two vehicles, a Toyota High Lander and a Toyota Rav 4, which he failed to do.
The prosecutor also alleged that the accused delivered one of the vehicles to the Mr Eruga but stole the Toyota Rav 4, valued at N2. 8 million.
He said that the total amount allegedly stolen was N4. 1 million.
Inspector Asibor, told the court that the offences allegedly committed contravened Sections 285 (1) and 312 (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
Section 312 (a) provides 14 years imprisonment for any person who commited the offence.
Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Komolafe, granted him N500, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and one must be a blood relation of the accused.
She adjourned the case to Jan 11, 2016 for mention .
