FTZ's boss killing: suspects to remain in custody for another 56 days

An Ebute-Metta Magistrate court has order the continuous remand of four suspects arrested over the killing of a former Managing Director of Lekki Trade Zone Development Company, Late Tajudeen Disu, who was allegedly shot dead during an uproar between the management of the Zone and indigenes of its hosting communities, are to remain in prisons custody for another 56 days.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. Folashade Botoku,  gave the order, due to none availability of an advice from the Directorate of Pubic Prosecution, DPP, on the matter.
At the resume hearing of the matter, the prosecutor, Mr. Cyril Ejiofor from Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, CIID, Panti-Yaba, informed the court that the Office of DPP is yet to issue any advice on the matter.
The accused persons are; Jaiye Dele, Tunde Ismaila, Shakirat Agbaje, and Oshinowo Olalekan.
It would be recalled that late Tajudeen Disu, was allegedly killed on October 12, during an uproar between the management of the Zone and the indigenes of the hosting community, Okunraye Village, one of the communities.
The police had on October 13, charged 17 persons in connection with the killing.
Those charged before the court were  Two persons, Alhaji Tajudeen Jegede, 68, Chief Kayode Raufu, 60; Saidi Akanni, 41; Raufu Agunreje 31, Sunday Bulus 30; Taiwo Oyelade, 21; Abiola Ogunsanwo, 20; Stephen Okuriaye 20; Taiwo Gafar 38; Banji Agunrege 37; Ahmed Gafar 25; Moses Okoro 30, Talabi Onadri 43; Ipaye Oriyomi 25; Yusuf Quadri 23; Lord Lugard, 32; and Anthony Agbogie, 30.
However, at the last proceedings of the matter, two of the suspects namely; Tajudeen Jegede, 68, Chief Kayode Raufu, 60; were discharged by the court after the prosecutor informed the court that they were exonerated by the investigation conducted by the police.
Also, the court equally admitted bail to 15 suspects arrested in connection with the killing.
Those admitted to bail were; Saidi Akanni, 41; Raufu Agunreje 31, Sunday Bulus 30; Taiwo Oyelade, 21; Abiola Ogunsanwo, 20;
Others includes; Stephen Okuriaye 20; Taiwo Gafar 38; Banji Agunrege 37; Ahmed Gafar 25; Moses Okoro 30, Talabi Onadri 43; Ipaye Oriyomi 25; Yusuf Quadri 23; Lord Lugard, 32; and Anthony Agbogie, 30.
The 15 accused persons were later arraigned before the court on a six count charge bordering on rioting and unlawful assembly.
The Police alleged that the 15 accused persons had on October 12, at about 9am, conspired among themselves to commit the alleged act.
The offences according to the prosecutor are punishable under sections 409,45, 410 and 44 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.
The accused persons, who are majorly fishermen, technician and 'okada rider, had pleaded not guilty to the charges, and they were admitted to bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety each.
The court's order was sequel to a remand application brought before the court by the Police against the four accused persons.
The prosecutor, Ejiofor therefore urged the court to remand the accused persons in prisons custody pending an advice for the DPP's office.
However, lawyer to the four accused persons, Mr. A. Usman, while urging the court to discountenanced the remand application, said prosecution failed to state a probable cause why his clients should be remanded.
He therefore urged the court to grant bail to the four accused persons.
However the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Afolashade Botoku, after listened to the submission of both parties, upheld the remand application and ordered that the four accused persons be remanded in prisons custody pending an advice from DPP on the matter.
The Chief Magistrate had also ordered the police to duplicate the case file and forward same to DPP's office for legal legal advice.
The matter has also been adjourned till February 15, 2016, for DPP advice.
