Court remands 7 suspects over the killing of NURTW chief, 2 others

A Lagos Chief Magistrate's Court sitting at Ebute-metta, has ordered the remand of seven suspects linked to the murder of a member of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Azeez Otun, 47, a.k.a  Ashake, and other two persons.
Those ordered to be remanded in police custody by Chief Magistrate Afolashade Botoku led-court were Ahmadu Kazeem, 43; Ibrahim Afolabi, 37; Lawal Lateef, 27; Anthony Qudus, 33; Adeshina Ibrahim, 28; Adebayo Ogunjimi, 25; and Animashaun Olubodun, 33.
In the remand warrant filed before the court by the men of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of Lagos State Police Command, Panti-Yaba, CIID, the seven suspects were alleged to have conspired among themselves to kill Otun and two others namely: Rilwan Saka, 19 and Obabiolorunkosi Nurudeen, by shooting them with a gun.
The police alleged the the suspects committed the offence on September 20, 2014, at about 6p.m., at Enu-owa-Adeniji area of Lagos Island.
The police in an affidavit in support of the remand warrant deposed to by Inspector David Adeyi of Legal Department of the CIID, who investigated the matter, stated that the suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of the deceased persons.
The deponent urged also the court to remand the suspects in police custody, in the interest of justice pending completion of police investigation.
In support of the affidavit, the prosecutor, Inspector Daniel Ighodalo, urged the court to remand the suspects in accordance with section 264(1) and (2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
Consequently, Chief Magistrate Afolashade Botoku ordered that the seven suspects be remanded in police custody for the first 30 days, to enable the police to complete its investigation.
The matter has been adjourned till January 11.
It would be recalled the the late Otun,  Chairman of Isale-Eko Unit of NURTW and others were allegedly shot dead on September 20, 2014, after a political rally held at the Tarawa Balewa Square, TBS, Lagos.
