An Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate's Court, sitting at Oyingbo, today, ordered that Olalekan Shonde, who allegedly killed his wife, Ronke Shonde, be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons, till July 8, 2016, when the matter shall come up mention.

The court presided over by Chief Magistate Oluwayemisi Adelaja, had on May 20, ordered that Shonde be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons, when he was first charged before the court on one count charge of murder.
At the resumed proceedings today, the prosecutor, Inspector Chinalu Nwadione, informed the court that he had received a copy of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
But responding to the prosecutor's submission, lawyer to Shonde, Mr. I. B. Mohammed, told the court that he is yet to receive any advice from DPP, but will want to apply for a copy.
Upon the submissions of the prosecutor and the defendant's lawyer, the court adjourned the matter till July 8, for mention, while ordered that defendant should be returned to Ikoyi Prison's.
Lekan Shonde, 51, a dock worker, in the charge sheet, attached with the remand warrant by the police allegedly murdered his wife, one Ronke, 37, on May 5, 2016, at about 2:30pm at their residence, 3, Tiemo street, Egbeda Lagos, by giving her fist blow on her head.
According to the police, the offence is contrary to and punishable under section 221 of the Criminal law of Lagos state 2011.
But, despite the fact that the court did not take Shonde's plea, he had denied killing his wife when he was brought before the court, saying “I did not kill her”.
The prosecutor, Uwadione had urged the court to remand the defendant in prison custody to enable him send the case file to DPP’s office for legal advice.
The magistrate thereafter ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody pending DPP’s advice.
