Bank Fraud: Court fixed Nov 8 to commence trial

The trial of a Manager with Diamond Bank Plc, Chinedu Oguike, over alleged N24 million fraud before a Lagos Federal High Court have been fixed for November 8.
Chinedu who is a manager of the Oyingbo branch of Diamond Bank, was arraigned before Justice AbdulAziz Anka led-court in August 16, by the Nigeria Police Force's Special Fraud Unit,
SFU in charge nunber FHC/L/334c/16, filed before the court by its prosecutor, Mr. Effiong Asuquo, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), alleged that the accused person while while acting Manager of the Bank, something in 2014, conspired others now at large, and obtained the sum of N24 million, from one Ufomba Nnabugwu.
He was alleged to have obtained the money from the victim under false pretence of delivering a property located at Plot E-136, Adelaja Opesanwo Street, Ijegun-Egba, Satellite town, which is covered by a federal government's Certificate Of Occupancy (C Of O) registered as no. 48, Page 48,  volume 52, of the Federal Lands Registry Office, Ikoyi, dated August 25, 1999.
He was also alleged to used another person's name, Edwin Obele Ezeakachukwu, to obtained a loan facility from the bank for himself, and used the above mentioned property belonging to the name used, as collateral, at the detriment of the owner of the house.
The offences are said to be contrary to and punishable under sections 8(a), 1(1)(a)(3) of Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud related Offences Act, 2006, and 1(2)(C) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act. Cap. M17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The bank manager had however pleaded not guilty to the charges and admitted to bail by the court.
Following his plea of not guilty, the prosecutor, CSP Asuquo, urged the court to remand the defendant in Prison's custody, and fix a date for trial.
At the resumed trial of the bank manager on Friday, the prosecutor, CSP Asuquo, while urged the court for a short adjournment, said the adjournment sought for was to enable the prosecution to furnish the defence with the proof of evidence of the Criminal matter.
CSP Asuquo also informed the court that the prosecution has persons to witness against the bank manager in the said alledged Criminal act.
Consequently, the presiding judge, Justice AbdulAziz Anka, while ordering the prosecution to ensure that all proof of evidence in the matter are given to the defence, adjourned the matter till November 8, for the commencement of trial of the bank manager.

The convict, RasakOgedengbe, aged 25, on the faithful day, had along with another person at large attacked the family of one Mr Chukwujekwu who just returned from church at Ejigbo with guns and catered away some of their valuables, which included money, wrist watches, phones, etc.

LASG to create cyber-forensic team to tackle cyber-crimes

The Lagos state government is to establish a cyber-forensic team to tackle cyber-crimes and create an online criminal data register for the state. The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Kazeem Adeniji stated this at a news briefing in Alausa, Ikeja.

Alleged $40,000 theft: Court adjourns lawyer's trial till Jan. 29

A Lagos Chief Magistrate's Court, sitting at Tinubu, on Wednesday, adjourned till January 29, for mention the criminal charge filed against a 25 year-old lawyer, Joshua Olomo, who is facing charges bordering on alleged theft of documents and $40, 000 USD before the court. The court presided over by Magistrate M. B. Folami  adjourned the matter for mention at the instance of the prosecution led by Inspector Richard Odigie, who inform the court that the police wants to amend the charge against the lawyer.

Families of Ojuelegba trailer crash victims sue Lagos Government

Five family members of the victims of the trailer crash in Ojuelegba area of Lagos has filed a N10 billion suit against the Lagos state government.

The Lagos state Attorney General, the state public works corporation, Motor Vehicle Administration Agency was joined as defendants in the fundamental right suit which was filed before a Federal High Court in Lagos.

Other defendants are: The Attorney General of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Works, Federal Road Safety Commission and the driver and owner of the ill fated drucks, Wasiu Adeleke and Kilani Ojo Adeyanju.

While the applicants in the suit are: Umar Abdulwahab, Usman Sulaiman, Ismala maikankan ,lbrahim Ibrahim  and Umaru Sulaiman Umaru who are all family members of the victims.

It would be recalled that three people died last year September when a 20 feet container loaded with cement fell from a truck at Ojuelegba Bridge.

The suit was filed by Norrison I. Quakers (SAN) and Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) on behalf of the plaintiffs.

In an affidavit in support of the suit sworn to by a Lagos based business man, Umar Abdulwahab, the deponent averred that on September, 2, 2015, he received a call from the Yaba mainland hospital official informing him about the accident and the fatalities asking him to come to the hospital mortuary to identify the corpses of Abubaker Sule,Umaru Sulaiman and kamilu Umaru. 
     
The deponent further averred that he was in deep shock and pain when he saw the mangled and shattered bodies of the deceased persons which were crushed beyond recognition by the trailer that fell on their vehicle.
Abdulwahab also averred that an eye witness told him that at western Avenue, Ojuelegba , Surulere lagos about 12noon,a diesel trailer truck with registration number Lagos Epe 46 XK driven by one kilani ojo Adeyanju,fell off ojuelegba bridge onto two vehicles one of which was the car in which the deceased persons were traveling.

The applicants are seeking for a N10 billion damages against the respondents jointly and severally.

They also urge the court to declare that the death of the deceased persons is tantamount to heinous infractions by the respondents of the deceased persons right to life, personal and human dignity, good health and family harmony as guarantee by sections 33 and 34 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and articles 4,5,16 and 18 of the African charter on human and people’s right.

No date has been fixed yet for hearing in the suit.

Arraignment: Agent defraud journalist

A 42 year-old real estate agent, Babalola Muritala, has been arraigned at a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Igbosere, Lagos State, for allegedly defrauding a journalist of the sum of seven hundred thousand naira under pretext to secure a mini flat apartment.
